THE GROOVE ZONE Presents :
The 17th of Never

Raise Awareness to the Homeless Crisis

THE 17th OF NEVER was originally planned as a one-day online LIVE concert to raise awareness to the homeless crisis that is growing across the U.S. Due to a number of factors, the event was scaled down to an achievable-sized project that airs Saturday April 17th online via the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/olygroovezone

At press time, the event will feature brand new interviews with a handful of Canadian music artists, including Carole Pope (Rough Trade) on her return visit to the shows, Mountain Head returns for their third visit, Joe Vizvary of Images In Vogue visits with Groove Zone's DJ D-Phoenix and DJ Duckie;

With his band based in Seattle, WA, MTR Project's Martin Thomas Reed spends some downtime with D-Phoenix as the band readies itself for the upcoming full-length release and tour this summer.

Longtime friend Conrad Askland was a music conductor w/ Cirque du Soleil, returns for round 2 on the show. Ironically, Saturday April 17th is also the day that Askland's launch of incredible vaulted musical works are released on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/user/conradaskland .

The Three O'Clock's Michael Quercio is a first-time Special Guest on The Groove Zone. The band's founder/frontman dazzled the host and crew w/ his appearance on the show's lineup.

As of midnight on Sunday March 14th, four of the existing headliners were already on board and committed to join the cause.

Motorbone, the hard-rockin' L.A. band led by the charismatic bad boy of rock, Josh Tripp (a fellow Olympian and childhood friend of the resident DJ),

would be the first group to sign on for The 17th Of Never.

The Sorrow Of Painting, the flipside music project of Ty Wulf, of Aberdeen, WA would perform its material for the first time live officially under the new moniker. Ty was the Groove Zone's Neo Retro FM project's "honorary" talent liaison, having brought the bulk of the first season's talent to the network, and was instrumental in creating some new partnerships and connections among the artists.

Another band from Washington state, (Conducted By) Forget Me Not, the husband-wife duo of Ryan and Amanda Cariker of Marysville, WA bring their rockin' DarkPop sounds to the event with their appearance. Amanda was the network's host on Neo Retro's Friday night cornerstone program "The Darkest Hour w/ Amanda Jane". It was a late-night narrated anthology of ghostly, unexplained and generally frightening accounts that ran the entirety of the project's duration. Ryan was responsible for much of the music used in the station's advertising and promotional pieces, as well as the composer/performer of the network's first-ever theme songs.

"The Darkest Hour" can still be heard on

In preparation for the next MWH release coming soon, IVAN DOROSCHUK takes some time with DJ Duckie and DJ D-Phoenix in one of our favourite interviews!

THE THREE O'CLOCK

MICHAEL QUERCIO

MICHAEL QUERCIO, the man who unintentionally coined the term "The Paisley Underground" in the mid 1980s, "pops" in for an upbeat convo with resident DJ D-Phoenix. The Three O'Clock came out of the post-punk music scene of Los Angeles, and still remains one of the treasures of the Alt/Indie rock world today!

CAROLE POPE

(ROUGH TRADE)

Hailed as the legendary queen of Canadian rock, CAROLE POPE makes her second appearance on The Groove Zone programs in this catch-up segment with DJ D-Phoenix. The two last spoke in July 2020, not too long after the COVID-19 pandemic began. CAROLE was one busy woman between the two meetings.

CONRAD ASKLAND

(CIRQUE DU SOLEIL)

If we were to only include the fact that he was the Orchestra Leader for 2 of Cirque du Soleil's world-famous shows, we would be omitting an entirely amazing world of musical work by CONRAD ASKLAND, ranging over the past 35+ years. His talent is as vast as is the variety in his projects.

LEVITICUSS

(Selah, WA)

It was on his first listen of a LEVITICUSS track back in 2010 that the resident DJ was introduced to and instantly loved this inspiring rap artist from Eastern Washington (state). Now 11 years into a friendship, LEVITICUSS is still being promoted on The Groove Zone programs.
There is an Exclusive Sneak Peek waiting for viewers on April 17th, from LEVITICUSS himself.

STRANGE ADVANCE are just seeing the release of the long-awaited "4" album as this goes to press.

IMAGES IN VOGUE

JOE VIZVARY

When IMAGES IN VOGUE's JOE VIZVARY visited with DJ Duckie and DJ D-Phoenix recently, he gave the answers to some long-awaited questions during this convo.
Most American fans were introduced to IMAGES IN VOGUE on their brief tour dates with Duran Duran back in 1984. The reason for the short-lived exposure to a massive potential fanbase is revealed during the interview.

MTR PROJECT

(SEATTLE WA)

MTR PROJECT could make it on so many levels without even playing a single note. What we mean by that statement is that MTR has more talent and history in its background than most other bands they're in league with. It's a bit of a Seattle supergroup in a way, and with a vocalist like MARTIN THOMAS REED who has the vocal and backing power, this Project has what it needs to become one of the next legends out of the Pacific Northwest music scene

THE SORROW OF PAINTING w/ TY WULF

ABERDEEN, WA

LISTENERS OF THE NEO RETRO FM RADIO PROJECT WILL RECOGNIZE THE NAME AND MUSIC OF TY WULF, HE'S A GREAT AND MULTI-TALENTED MUSICIAN FROM THE LAND OF KURT COBAIN & COMPANY. CONSIDERED TO BE THE TALENT LIAISON FOR THE MAJORITY OF NEO RETRO FM'S TALENT, BOTH ON-AIR AND ON ROTATION, THE 17th OF NEVER IS THE THIRD PROJECT IN AS MANY YEARS AS HE'S BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH GROOVE ZONE PRODUCTIONS OR PROJECTS.
TO QUOTE THE TITLE OF AN INSTRUMENTAL TRACK BY SIMPLE MINDS, WHEN IT COMES TO TY WULF: SOMEBODY UP THERE LIKES YOU

MOTORBONE

(LOS ANGELES CA)

MOTORBONE's over-the-top frontman with those great "old school" powerhouse vocals JOSH TRIPP has been associated with The Groove Zone since 2019. After an appearance or two on the radio shows w/ his longime friend D-Phoenix, he decided to take part in a rock and roll reunion of friends back in his hometown of Olympia, WA.
The plan was to have Josh come home to play a concert with his old friends MIKE "MIKEY" DEES and FITZ OF DEPRESSION, with a couple of opening acts; that was the plan. Sadly, Dees passed away about a month and a half prior to the event. The reunion show had become a tribute concert.
Tripp has also appeared on The Groove Zone Shows, dating back to the 21-month stint at Free Radio Olympia, as well as a few plugs for the programs from time to time. At The 17th Of Never, fans and friends will get to watch MOTORBONE do what they do best, and that's Rock It!

MR. FINKLE'S TRAGEDY

(OLYMPIA, WA)

Another associated group of The Groove Zone's is MR. FINKLE'S TRAGEDY, a neo psychedelic/surf/space/experimental pop/rock unit from the capitol city of Washington (state). One of the highlights of the LEGENDARY 2019 Concert was the performance by the band at Rhythm & Rye.

Aaron and Gretchen had recently committed to a bi-weekly radio show on Neo RetroFM, naming it THE FREAK-SHOW; they were able to do two sessions on the network before it finished after QUASAR STARR's death on February 6, 2021. They were also friends of Starr's and the news of his death hit them hard as well.

The Neo RetroFM project may be over, but keep your eyes open because there's a good chance that Aaron' DJ DIZZY and Gretchen's GRETCHY-POO will be popping up at some point in the future in some GZ production.

FORGET ME NOT

MARYSVILLE, WA

The ultra-cool DarkPop band FORGET ME NOT continues to make their presence more than known as they join forces with the other acts on The 17th Of Never.
Most recently, the band released "Empty Well" and well, it's one of our favorites.

THE DJ HOSTS

DJ DEINOSAUR and DJ DUCKIE

NEO RETRO FM's station manager DJ DEINOSAUR will be on hand for part of the event on the 17th, sitting in with resident DJ D-Phoenix.
DJ DUCKIE sat in on the conversations with MEN WITHOUT HATS and IMAGES IN VOGUE. That is one lucky Duckie!

ED TAILORPATCH-

MARTIAN FOREST SERVICE

The enigmatic musician performs a very special set exclusively for The 17th Of Never!

As DJ D-Phoenix can tell you, one of the hardest things to do in the radio project is keeping a secret, or not divulging a guest's identity (if they so choose).
The association with ED TAILORPATCH of MARTIAN FOREST SERVICE has been an amazing one for the crew. The clincher in this combination is that Ed Tailorpatch is the pseudonym for one of modern music's best-kept secrets. The mastermind behind MFS was one of the most sought-after music producers of the 1990s; he co-wrote a megahit album for BECK as well as Beck's first smash hit, and then released a self-titled album of his own before disappearing off the radar, seemingly forever.
His story continues here.

 THE 17TH OF NEVER:

Raising Awareness to the Homeless Crisis

You CAN Help! Get involved on your local level in your local areas! Donate your time, resources and/or funds to a solid homeless charity organization near you today!

In so many places today, there are signs of hopelessness, despair, poverty, and the overall decline of life and living conditions among the people of the modern wastelands.  The task of helping find a solution seems monumental, if not impossible.

It's a community issue, and it will take community effort to turn the tides of this crisis in a more positive, productive direction.

There's not a single person, group, or organization that can remedy the growing situation on its own, but together as a community collective that pools its resources, manpower, and funding, there is hope that progress can be made in this fight to stop the increasing wave of homelessness.

"The 17th Of Never" is not designed to be a benefit or charitable event, as there is no admission for the online production on Saturday April 17th, 2021. In lieu of even a nominal viewing fee, the audience is being urged to get involved locally.

Links with tips and suggestions for getting involved are offered up in the promotional and advertisement campaigns, as well as on the various Groove Zone pages and sites online.

A good place to start would be the National Homeless Shelter Directory online at  www.homelessshelterdirectory.org/
